One of the numerous White House and Republican officials to contract the COVID-19 virus is HUD director Ben Carson. With the Trump administration news cycle adding years to every day, Carson’s condition was kept out of public. On Friday, Carson wrote on his Facebook page that his experience became very dire.

On Nov. 3, long-time evangelical pastor and big-time Trump supporter Rev. Irvin Baxter Jr. died of complications from COVID-19. Based in Plano, Texas, his ministry announced his death at the age of 75. Baxter, a televangelist who appeared on End of the Age syndicated television and radio program and founded Endtime Ministries, preached an apocalyptic-brand of Pentecostal Christianity that has been practiced in the United States since the early 1900s.
Fox News and other Murdoch-owned right-wing media outlets have made it clear that they are done with Donald Trump and see no further usefulness in supporting his baseless attempts at stealing the election. This isn’t inconsistent as the cynicism that Fox News has shown in helping to create and promote every fact-free conspiracy theory and piece of misinformation, is why they feel so comfortable walking away now.
The last time we saw Mark and Patricia McCloskey, they had cleaned themselves up to give an impassioned re-branding speech at the Republican National Convention. In that speech they warned America that the Democratic Party would “abolish suburbs.” Very on-brand for the couple whose singular claim to fame is coming outside of their expensive St. Louis home to threaten peaceful Black Lives Matter protesters with guns. They received some felony charges for that.
The coronavirus pandemic has been criminally handled by the Trump administration. In recent weeks, Texas has surged past California to become the state with the most cases of confirmed COVID-19 infection. Texas has also had a much higher rate of infection than California has. Now its rate of death is increasing as well.
While many in the media class are giving a lot of airtime to middle-of-the-road and conservative BS about President-elect Joe Biden’s need to be … a Republican(?), the joy being felt across the country is not simply the result of ending the Donald Trump nightmare. It’s about righting a ship the Republican Party has directed away from the majority of American citizens’ needs.
Donald Trump’s chief of staff Mark Meadows has tested positive for the coronavirus. Jennifer Jacobs of Bloomberg News reported that “Meadows informed a close circle of advisers after the election.” Meadows becomes yet another member of the Trump administration to come down with the virus. Bloomberg also reports that Trump’s campaign Director of Battleground Strategy Nick Trainer has also tested positive for the virus.
It’s Friday and things look very close to wrapping up. Yes, I’m being optimistic, and no, I don’t underestimate the lows that Donald Trump and the Republican Party can and will plumb to hold onto and concentrate their power. But, unless we have to hit the streets in a physical battle to stop a literal coup d’état, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will soon be announced as the next president and vice president of our country.
