Democrats have a secret weapon this election: you. More than 13,000 Daily Kos community members have come out of the woodwork this election cycle to volunteer with Vote Forward, writing “please vote” letters to Democratic-leaning voters in battleground races.

Together, the Daily Kos community has adopted over 750,000 voters—a 50% increase from the last midterm elections in 2018—who could make all the difference in this election.

We’re just six weeks away from the midterm elections, and we have seen a huge influx of young people registering to vote because they’re angry about the Supreme Court’s destruction of abortion rights in June.

Are you looking for a get-out-the-vote activity that can move a small number of voters but make a huge impact? A lot of campaigns ask folks to phone-bank, but state races are the most underrated ways to get involved. Just a few hours of your time can pay big dividends and serve the Daily Kos mission of electing more, better Democrats.

We are now less than 60 days from the midterm elections. With the tide turning in favor of Democrats, now is the time to get involved.

Twenty-two states already have laws on their books to ban abortion after a ruling becomes final, and this week Louisiana legislators are considering a bill to make abortion a crime, charging those who have one with murder.

The U.S. Supreme Court has again threatened our freedom to vote, this time in Wisconsin. As part of their “shadow docket,” the right-wing majority threw out a Wisconsin map that would have given Black voters the representation they deserve.

Now is the time to get angry, but to also build the groundwork to defend our democracy.

Wisconsin is the ultimate “tipping point” state. President Joe Biden won it by 21,000 votes in 2020, and in 2022 we have a key U.

On November 19, the U.S. House passed the Build Back Better Act. It is no exaggeration to say that for these members, this may be the most impactful vote of their careers. It is undoubtedly a victory for the American people. And now, it is incumbent on the U.S. Senate to pass it.

President Biden’s Build Back Better agenda may be the largest and most substantive social legislation since the New Deal and Great Society.

Passing it will make transformative investments in jobs, the care economy (including child care and pre-K, the child tax credit, home care, and more), combating climate change, delivering relief for millions of immigrants, and much more. That’s why Daily Kos has put all of our resources to help make it pass.

Congress is close to passing the historic and popular Build Back Better Act, but two Senate Democrats are standing in the way: Arizona’s Kyrsten Sinema  and West Virginia’s Joe Manchin. 

Manchin has at least been specific about some of his concerns, and represents a deep-red state where the politics are more difficult. But Sinema has been infuriatingly vague, and represents a state that voted for Joe Biden and is trending blue. She really has no excuse.

On Thursday, July 1, the U.S. Supreme Court upheld Arizona’s GOP voter suppression law—a crushing blow to our freedom to vote. This will have dire effects on the whole country, but especially in Sen. Kyrsten Sinema’s home state of Arizona.

In order to restore and protect our democracy, we must pass the For the People Act and the John Lewis Act. But both bills are blocked in the Senate due to the filibuster—an archaic rule that Sinema still defends.

For over a decade, Daily Kos activism has engaged our readers via email to sign petitions, call their elected officials, write constituent letters, attend events, and work to get out the vote.

In the past three years, however, we have moved beyond email to also send text messages—which you can opt in to receive when you sign any one of our petitions.

Voting rights are under attack by Republicans all across the country—especially in states like Georgia, where first-time Democratic voters were the margin of victory.

And now there is something you can do to help urge these voters to hang in there and remind them how crucial they were in the last election and what the stakes are going forward.

The election is almost over. And there’s only one state that’s literally keeping me up at night: Pennsylvania, a must-win battleground state for Joe Biden.

Here’s the problem: While states like Texas and Florida have had record early voting, the one swing state that noticeably did not turn in as many early ballots is Pennsylvania. Biden should win it, but if Pennsylvania slips through our fingers there’s a very real danger Trump could get reelected.

We are one week away from the most important election of our lifetime. But as a Bay Area resident, it can feel frustrating to know it will really be decided in a handful of states that are hundreds (or thousands) of miles away from us.

And with COVID-19, a lot of us miss the camaraderie of being around like-minded people. While there are many ways to volunteer from home, we don’t have campaign offices this year.

We only have until Saturday to write “please vote” letters to Democratic-leaning folks in battleground states who need that extra nudge to turn out.

Indeed, a new fire just started on Sunday in Santa Rosa, only about an hour north of where I live. And we are all nervously eyeing what may happen next.
